koh lanta ko lanta

About Us

Kohlanta Kolanta is a blog type informational website with heaps of unusual aspects of Koh lanta's incredible island Culture .

Kohlanta Kolanta website/blog is currently the sole project of Mr. Spencer Littlewood, who has been a resident of Lanta since 2001, living an conducting his life with the Thai locals, eating, sleeping and conducting daily life with them. As a result, spencer has managed to attain an insight and degree of intimacy with the locals that is hard to penetrate unles you both speak fluent Thai, and alsolive on the island. Just living on the island is not enough though, to penetrate the inner secrets, folktales and customs of an island culture, you have to live with the locals, and live like them too. Spencer would like to take this opportunity to thank his faithful friend Bang Baw for all the hospitality he has shown to Spencer, and also for all the outings and knowledge that Spencer has been lucky enough to rteceive from Baw about local customs, pastimes, hunting, fishing and farming methods etc.
The plan for this website project is to collect information and publish about all the aspects of local life and culture that a normal visitor or tourist may never get to experience if nobody tells him/her. So often do we travel and visit places for a short time, but in reality, return home knowing almost nothing about the place, and not having penetrated the culture or local mindset to any extent whatsoever. This is a shame, Spencer finds, and thus was inspired to make kohlantakolanta.com. The idea occured to Spencer one evening as he was sat chatting with his local friends from Klong Khong, and Baw was telling some stories about Lanta when he was a child, and even before that when his grandfather was stiull young. Spencer commented that it was a shame that the tourists on the bach in their bungalkows will never get to see or hear of these things...all they get to see is a beach through the bottom of their cocktail glass, and other tourists in the bar. Spencer said ity would be nice to make a website to reveal all these wonderfil tales and facts about Ko lanta. Baw said he thought so too. When Spencer saw baw's innocent face and the enthusiasm upon it, he decided to buy kohlantakolanta.com and start. In the moment, Spencer is stuck in Bangkok (which is the reason for the current slow development of this site), but hopes to return to lanta soon so he can continue documenting his "Baw's Diary" documentary and publish it here on the website. Also he wishes to start making new fotos of koh lanta and events there, and take some geological samples to devgelop the page about geological lanta topography is another thing he wishes to cover, but needs to return to the province to research maps etc. Lanta cookery is another thing that Spencer is hot to get round to coveruing. He intends to visit all the different villages and make "local cooks" section, where different people will cook their special recipe and present it on kohlanta kolanta. Lanta religions will also be covered, both Buddhism and Islam. Spencer plans to make a page for the Muslims to present each mosque and community in each village, with fotos of the mosque, picture of the "Imam" (head holy man) of each mosque, and a small introduction and "history and about" section for each mosque, with a list of the activities the mosque plans. so many things for one man to do alone..... Spencer apologizes for the fact that kohlantakolanta.com is moving slowly, but promises that soon, within the next 3 months or so, he shall return to Lanta and take the challenge up once more to develop the first and only true website about the real koh lanta and it's people and customs.

Until then, please keep visiting kohlantakolanta.com  to check for updates..they will appear on the left navigation menu under "Latest Updates"
