Islam on Koh Lanta - ศาสนาอิสลามที่เกาะลันตา
Islam is the main Religion of Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta has a Muslim Majority of about 85 percent of the island's population.
Each village/settlement has it's own small Mosque (called "Masayid" in Thai - มาสยิด), where the locals gather to pray and meet socially. Some Muslims pray the whole 5 times a day, others go only once or twice, according to the restrictions imposed on them by their daily living situations. If a person is poor and needs to spend more time than normal working to feed his family, then he may not attend all 5 prayer sessions of the day, due to the need to work.
Although October is the beginning of the high season for tourism, the Muslim people of Koh lanta have to wait one more month to reap the highest rewards of the tourist season, due to "Ramadan" (the Muslim religious pracise of fasting for a month).
Almost every small village on Koh lanta has it's own "Masayid" - มาสยิด (Mosque), with the call to prayer occuring the Traditional frequency (5 times a day).
